Jeep Compass Review: Capability

The 2017 Jeep Compass delivers an efficient yet engaging ride with its dynamic 2.4L Tigershark® MultiAir® 2 engine. Pumping out up to 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque, the engine is mated to either a six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic transmission for a smooth, efficient ride.

Enhancing efficiency even further is the fuel-saving stop/start technology that comes standard with the nine-speed.  When the Compass comes to a stop, this feature turns the engine off. When you start driving again, stop/start gets the engine running again. This helps the Compass conserve fuel, allowing it to achieve up to an EPA-estimated 23 city/32 highway mpg.

Jeep Compass 4x4 Systems

In addition to its potent powertrain, the Jeep Compass offers two 4x4 systems to elevate your adventure even further. The first, Jeep Active Drive, comes with a rear axle disconnect that switches between front- and four-wheel drive to improve efficiency in conditions where 4x4 capabilities are unnecessary.

The second, Jeep Active Drive Low, comes standard on Compass Trailhawk® trims and delivers a best-in-class off-road performance.  It adds a 20:1 crawl ratio and a low range, plus a Selec-Terrain® traction control system to rock your off-road adventure.

Jeep Compass Review: Interior

Climb inside a 2017 Jeep Compass, and you'll find spacious seating for up to five people. Despite the Compass's adventure-ready design, its interior has an upscale vibe.

Available leather upholstery, heated and eight-way power adjustable front seats, and a dual-panel sunroof ensure each passenger rides in comfort. Optional technology features, like a seven-inch driver information digital cluster display, offer an advanced level of convenience, while Uconnect® 8.4 NAV brings the world to the tips of your fingers.

In addition to its luxurious design, the Jeep Compass provides plenty of cargo space. You'll find up to 27.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind its second row seat. If you need more room for things like skis or skateboards, fold down the Compass's rear seat to reveal up to 59.8 cubic feet of storage. The Compass even provides an adjustable cargo floor, which you can move up and down to easily load your gear.
