Once driving off the lot in a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, you're certainly in for an exciting time in your life. This is truly a thrilling vehicle to own, thanks to its strong performance both on pavement and in off-roading situations. Vehicle maintenance will be necessary as time moves on, to ensure the car can continue taking on the roads of St. Louis, Chesterfield, Kirkwood, and Missouri.

At Glendale Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, our service professionals offer comprehensive maintenance services for the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Read on below to see what service is needed, and when it should be performed.

Oil Changes

First, a word about oil changes. The Grand Cherokee has an automatic oil change indicator system, reminding you when maintenance is needed. Normal operating conditions can mean the oil lasts up to 10,000 miles, but it will vary depending on how the car is used.

If the vehicle is used for frequent short trips, trailer towing, or in extreme temperatures, the oil change light could turn on after 3,500 miles. You should never exceed 12 months/10,000 miles when it comes to an oil change. The oil will be changed when the light turns on, and the indicator system will be reset.

When the light turns on we'll also:

  • Rotate the tires
  • Inspect the battery
  • Check the brake pads, shoes, rotors and drums
  • Look at the exhaust system

Now, on to other general maintenance.

2 Years/20,000 Miles

This interval means the front suspension should be checked, along with the front and rear axle fluid. Oil is necessary to lubricate the axles and keep all the drive components cool while driving.

At this stage, the brake linings and parking brake function will be inspected, too. We'll make sure the parking brake is functional and your brakes, in general, are road-ready. The cabin air filter will need replacement, too. The air filter keeps pollen and dust out of the cabin, so you can breathe clearly when the air conditioning system is in use. If you've noticed you're sniffling or sneezing more often, that likely means the filter is blocked, and a new one is needed.

3 Years/30,000 Miles

The engine air filter, which protects your engine, will be replaced after 30,000 miles. This is sort of like the cabin air filter, but for the engine. Your engine needs to be able to breathe, and this filter keeps pollutants, dirt and dust away from the engine. It will gum up over time and needs to be replaced so the engine can run cleanly.

10 Years/100,000 Miles

The job of spark plugs is simple: to ensure the engine can start and run properly. If you've noticed the engine misfiring, have trouble starting the car or fuel economy is dipping, it could be because the spark plugs are worn down.

When spark plugs are worn down, they could drain the battery. We'll replace them after the car has been driven for 100,000 miles.
