Midsize SUVs are popular with families who need a spacious vehicle for carpooling children to school or for taking family vacations. Sometimes a driver may need to transport a bulky item for work. The Dodge Journey and Kia Sorento are dependable SUVs that families have loved for years. Whatever your interests and needs are, you should find features to like in both cars. Read our 2018 Dodge Journey vs. Kia Sorento comparison to find which vehicle works for you.
Performance
Both SUVs will get you where you need to go. The Journey comes standard with a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine with 173 horsepower. Upgrading to the 3.6 V6 engine with 283 horsepower and combining it with the 6-speed automatic transmission gives the car better acceleration. Drivers might feel some body roll when making turns or driving down winding roads. However, the excellent suspension system absorbs most road bumps and ensures a very comfortable ride inside the Journey.
The Sorento has three engine options. The base engine is a 2.4L 4-cylinder with 185 horsepower. The EX trim comes with a turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with 240 horsepower, To get the most acceleration and the ability to maintain highway speed, upgrade to a V6 engine that produces 290 horsepower. However, the Sorento isn't as agile when equipped with the V6 engine. Kia's Torque Vectoring Cornering Control feature sends torque and power to the tires for better traction and enables the SUV to smoothly turn corners.
We encourage drivers from St. Louis, Chesterfield, and Kirkland, Missouri, to visit Glendale Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram and discover the power of the Dodge Journey's engine.Â
Interior and Cargo Space
Dodge made the third row standard in all 2018 Journey trims, and the seating capacity is seven people. By contrast, the third row is optional in the Sorento. The standard seating capacity is five people but goes up to seven with the third row put in.
The Dodge's cargo space is adequate with 10.7 cubic feet behind the third row and a maximum of 67.6 cubic feet of space. The cargo space for the Sorento is 11.3 cubic feet behind the optional third row, 38 cubic feet behind the second row, and 73 cubic feet with both rows turned down. Both vehicles offer storage bins for small items like food or toys.
Technology and Safety Features
Both SUVs offer an infotainment system. The Journey's upgraded 8.4-inch touchscreen is slightly bigger than the 7-inch or 8-inch screen for the Sorento, and its controls are easy to use. The Dodge also has an optional 9-inch DVD player, which should keep the passengers entertained during a long car ride.
While the Journey has many standout safety features, the Kia offers features such as Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Forward Collision Warning System, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and rain-sensing wipers.
